Moody Blue Dyna Wide Glide Harley-Davidson

THIS 2012 FXDWG was originally imported from Texas; it had a whole list of ‘Backyard Barry’ fixes to undo… I started with fixing the wiring — it had the American style of using the indicators as daytime running lights, shitty ‘cyclops’ Fat Bob twin headlight and a lame-ass LED strip for a brake light. I replaced the indicators with a full LED setup, installed a single LED headlight and whacked a traditional ‘limp-dick’ taillight on.

The rear suspension was extra-high; I’m assuming the former owner either did a lot of touring or had a penchant for chunky chicks. These were replaced with a set of Progressive Shocks at stock length. I also swapped out the shitty foot-pegs for a new set of extra-wide, chrome/rubber for rider and passenger.

I replaced the 10-inch ape/four-inch riser combination with a traditional H-D riser setup and a set of 14-inch apes. The suspension, headlight nacelle, taillight, handlebars and advice were sourced from Colt at HD Development in Melbourne, Vic.

The engine mounts were cactus and they got replaced, as well as installation of F&R LED indicators by the team at Whiskey Throttle Garage in Thomastown, Vic.

The Dyna gets ridden extra-hard, but most rides required an in-depth, pre-flight check. She was so temperamental that the moniker ‘Moody Blue’ was soon earned. I ended up having to keep a tool-bag on the bike permanently. It kept me busy though — I’d just transferred from the Army to the Navy and it gave me something to do most days during COVID. She ended up a great touring bike and I could quite comfortably ride 1000 km days on her without issues.
