Hurricane Louie Breakout
“…building a black bike is a fine line of balancing just the right amount of everything,” said Bear at Bestway Customs & Choppers.
THIS SOFTAIL came to us brand spanners from Sy’s Harley-Davidson in Campbelltown. The first time Louie dropped it off to Best Way Customs we did pipes, air cleaner and computer—but it wasn’t ever going to end there…
Starting with a Harley-Davidson Breakout gives custom builders the luxury of a factory wide–arse which we beefed up to a 18 x 8.5 inch rim with a 250 tyre.
Thanks to Joe at KPR Industries, the factory rear fender copped a ‘Chop Z’ LED taillight eliminator kit with number-plate surround.
The factory front-end was ditched in favour of an aftermarket inverted front-end running a custom, SMT billet, 26-inch front wheel and RWD steel front fender.
The rear wheel was upgraded as well with a similar contrast-cut design.
And to see the road, we used an Arlen Ness, grilled, contrast-cut headlight bucket with the super bright LED Daymaker insert.
All of our high-end bikes demand Burleigh Bars simply because there is no better design and fabrication out there! These Burleigh Roller Bars are the pick of the bunch for Breakouts for style and function and utilise the original Breakout speedo position better.
Dakota Digital came to the party in this department with their plug-and-play LED speedo that packs a host of other features all built into this great-looking factory-sized unit.
The factory Fat Bob tank was retained but was customised with a CVO console, breathers and so forth.
Louie already had the great seat courtesy of Danny Grey; the Butt Crack series has the looks and is comfy for them long highway miles!
Bassani was the obvious choice for an exhaust. The Road Rage two-into-one pipe looks, sounds and works like it should! These pipes cater for all engines, mild to wild!
‘Less is always more’ is an often over-used and totally misunderstood saying in describing a bunch of things in life but it’s one thing we have perfected—building a black bike is a fine line of balancing just the right amount of everything. With a host of gloss-black top-shelf parts available these days and the untouchable talent of my good friend Dutchy, we carefully picked a bunch of items that were graced with his super Jet Black paint and custom graphics including that subtle but amazing Harley logo inside the rear wheel! Look him up the next time you need paint: Dutchy’s Motorcycle Spray Art.
The Roland Sands Design ‘Clarity’ range of engine, transmission and primary covers look amazing and enable a unique view of the working internals.
RSD, PM, HHI, Arlen Ness, Heartland, H-D, Burleigh Bars, Magnum, SMT, RWD, KPR Industries, to name a few, all combine to manufacture and supply quality parts to make a build like this possible! The limit is only your imagination and how many fun tickets you have stashed away!
For now Louie has taken delivery and enjoying this beautiful black machine but stay tuned there will be more for this Hurricane to truly live up to its name!
